Maybe his parents got a divorce since they were holding it off because of RZC's gaokao or perhaps he didn't get in his collage of choice. The later sounds a bit flimsy for a reason but I think it align with the scene- where RZC was surprised to see something on the computer screen- better than the other reason...but who knows
