I have a question. I don't know from where the author is from (google doesn't tell me anything) but for me it seems like in the country, where this manga plays, are gay relationship unusual/forbidden/whatever. Do I just imagine things or I am right?
the artist is from japan (like most of the manga artist) and there the people aren't open to showing affection in public places. Plus a gay relationship is unusual there.

Yes. Gay relationships no longer illegal, however, they are still frowned upon by most of society. :(
