personally i like tj. but people hate him for many reasons such as:

1. he's obsessed with ian in an unhealthy way.

2. he once sent people to kinda threaten ian about something not exactly sure what it was, but by accident ian fell off the balcony because of that and broke his leg, ending his racing career i think which he obviously really loved.

3. he didn't want ian to leave the gang, but he couldn't stop him directly. so he put ian in debt in order to tie him down with money, hoping ian would struggle to pay it back working an honest job and give up then go back to the gang with tj.

4. he chose the gang over ian. ian wanted to quit, and told tj about it, but tj said he's not leaving now he's just getting started. so by choosing the gang life and power over ian, he basically showed ian that he's not a priority for him.

that last point is why i the biggest reason as to why I dislike TJ! I’ve probably stated this in multiple replies but I think people are confusing his [toxic] possessiveness of Ian for genuine care. he’s selfish to an extreme degree and by prioritizing his wants, he’s demonstrated that Ian’s needs aren’t worth anything to him.

i think tj most definitely genuinely cares for ian, because he loves him even if he is very obsessed with him. i also don't think tj is possessive, it doesn't really apply to him that word. if he was possessive, he wouldn't ever be okay with other people sleeping with ian. he also wouldn't have let joe and ian's relationship continue at all, but he did. he never even did anything to joe, it was his own gangsters who went to threaten joe by themselves. he lets ian have his own life, he just obsessively watches over him but still lets him live it. i think he is selfish tho you're right, but saying that "ian's needs aren't worth anything to him" is kinda extreme. he didn't prioritize ian, doesn't mean that ian's needs don't mean anything to tj.

tj's shown it and said it multiple times, they're more than lovers, more than family. tj in general wants ian to be safe, even in the most recent chapters. when jamie tried to kill tj in the car accident, he was so relieved that it was him and not ian who could've gotten hurt or died. he also got mad that ian kept trying to get involved with gang affairs again, because he doesn't want ian to get hurt. he also helped ian stop his drug addiction, so no for sure tj cares about ian genuinely.

I just want to say that Jo is the same! Also obsessed but without the excuse of a shitty past!
I do agree that the way TJ ties down Ian is not healthy. However, they showed that he has genuine feelings for Ian when he told Ian to leave. Ian unfortunately also is invested in the relationship for his reasons and trauma.
Just to add, it makes sense that both TJ and Ian have a messy relationship since they didn’t have better role models and probably never learned about healthy relationships, which it was supposed to be different for Jo. However, bro is also obsessive and puts himself in nonsense situations. Anyways, just my opinion.

yess i agree even ian himself said that joe looks at him the same obsessed way tj looks at ian, so maybe joe has it in him to act the way tj does but it hasn't come out yet idk. and yes ian and tj's relationship is complicated and so sad bc from what was shown they seem to have grown up poorly, all they had was each other :/
