I read a lot of yaoi too as well as identify as asexual. I have no desire for human intimacy but I guess reading it or looking at it is a type of substitute for the excitement that other people get from actual humans.

I read yaoi because of the fact that most straight manga is full of unrelatable characters. A lot of what I've read are usually either quirky in a cute way, dumb but loveable, or just a plain Mary sue. There's not a lot of flaws or character development going on.
