If they’re legally married, that may tangle up Mincheol with the debt and may not give him the opportunity to get hired to his current job. The reason why Haesoo is sticking up with him is because he promised they will get married again once he got hired and help her pay the debt. Apparently, that wasn’t the case.
In the early chapters it was revealed that they are legally divorced, because of the debt issues and mincheol promised her that they will get married after the debt is cleared. That’s why in front of Ari mincheol kept saying they are family but haesoo couldn’t protest or say otherwise.
