I’m regretting my wording just a littleeeee bit, it’s a bit strong, so I don’t think it’s *necessary* but I do think that it builds upon the narrative in a not too unrealistic way, and also helps build and understand Brett’s character a lot more in the upcoming chapters. I feel like it explains a lot about Brett’s psyche and his nature. Spoiler warning past this point.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a rich pompous senator to hire people to do unspeakable things in order to get what they want, especially American politicians . We also know that Nathan’s father has known Brett since he was a child, we can infer that he naturally knows some part about Brett’s nature, at least the one he shows; that being condescending and arrogant, seemingly looking like he’s above everyone else (as said by Alexander and why he tried shooting Brett in the first place). What would be the worst thing you can do to a pompous arrogant alpha? Rape them of course. He wants Brett to back off of the trial, so that Alexander could get retribution for killing his son, with Brett out of the way, as he’s going to testify for Alexander, it would make that process easier.
Ofc he doesn’t know actual Brett’s true nature, and we can see it more clearly *because* of what happens to him. He’s calculating and would go through anything to get to his end result (ie literally the beginning 6 chapters that establish how he manipulated to get Hayden). He compartmentalizes what he goes through from the actual trauma that he went through to his more logical nature, dissociating by memorizing his assaulters characteristics. He ignores everything that happens to him and refuses to acknowledge his emotional side, which then comes to a head at the season finale. It brings out his extremes bc it’s the only way he knows how. We also see what he doesn’t even realize, that he is somewhat affected by the things he does, and it helps build his future character development to realize more about his emotions.
I guess tldr, this manhwa has always been built on themes of dominance and the complexities of Brett as a character, and while there could have been other ways to show Brett’s character, thw utilization of the gang rape is not one out of fetish but necessity of showing off Brett’s character. And ITS NOT EVEN SHOWN and we KNOW the author could have because it’s literally the first ever scene we see Brett and Hayden fuck and we see it in the first sex scene (Hayden’s rut) of season two!! The author has tact abt what happens to Brett. He gets a rape kit for crying out loud. I understand it’s a trend (one that I also hate) but this is not an instance of careless use.

yes, i feel this author is one of the fews who don't do it for shock value or romanticize like most and don't underestimate how sa affects.
We can see the sa ripple in the story, Hayden is absolute a mess after knowing what happened to Brett and Brett reported, took a rape kit and how he wants justice by winning the court ... this sa wasn't put in the story just to be dealt half assed.
But ofc i wish the author hadn't go the sa route to move the story but it it was their decision and i know they aren't writing it without any consideration or tact.

i think this might be the kind of story that'll be easier to promote once it's complete and can be regarded as a whole, especially considering there's a healthy serving of plot that can easily get sidelined for the porn while it's still updating.

This really is logic vs emotion in play here, I feel sick. Do I understand both sides? Yeah, but does it hurt me so much, also yeah.
At this point I feel like we should all agree that Brett is, even subconsciously, whipped for Hayden. Everything he’s done, from the court case to his own assault is to give back Hayden’s own sacrifice. But brett does not understand his own value, it’s almost self sacrificial in a way. He thinks that by all things necessary, if he delivers what he thinks is retribution in its most ultimate form, that it’s enough to appease. We see it with him trying to do it to his brother and we see it with Hayden as well. It’s his way of showing his love, but he truly can’t comprehend how others can’t accept it. He’s always thinking ahead.
When it comes to Hayden, it almost gets swapped around. He cares not for retribution nor the future but the present. He wants to give Brett himself, not any gift, but his heart.
Brett cannot understand Hayden’s gift, he cannot accept it the way Hayden can’t accept his, that’s why he gets so confused and uneasy when Hayden hugs him. Brett’s rejection of Hayden turns him to his natural state, a truly emotional being. And with Hayden’s refusal of Brett, he also goes back to his natural state of being, logical.
With these two extremes, it’s no wonder why they ended up the way they did. They couldn’t accept each other in the end, their gift. Fuck me bro like actually

Fuck not the act 2 break up curse I need the ambulance. Oughhhb this chapter is the culmination and clash of Hayden’s and Brett’s personalities and values. Hayden is of course and understandable heartbroken and devastated at what Brett had to go through and wants to his the rapists to get karma on what they did, but Brett says that it was all part of a larger plan, that they were just a gun but not the shooter. He apologies to Hayden for not telling him soon and having sex after but that’s Hayden’s least concern. God I forgot to mention that Hayden hugged Brett so tightly and with care but Brett couldn’t comprehend it, his vision literally warped and he furrowed his brows. He still can’t understand Hayden and perhaps him own feelings.
Brett says his revenge is to stand in court, to ruin the legacy that dared to kill him and hurt Hayden. Hayden wants them to get their own revenge but Brett tells him that he’s personally doing it.
Here’s where it gets tense, Brett refuses to tell Hayden in case of perjury (my translation also gets rough here so bear with me). He says that he can handle it himself that he’s a good liar, his own version of “consideration”, that it’s not a lack of talent on Hayden’s part but because it hurts haydens heart to act falsely, a guilt (tho I don’t rlly get what he means here). He tells Hayden to just not care, for him to anticipate their next date. He wants to go to Newport and chill on his yacht. Fun.
Hayden doesn’t think it’s fun tho and is kinda disgusted/freaked out/angry/shocked. He wonders how Brett can just say these things to him, without a care in the world how he thinks of Hayden as just some toy? He feels like he’s been played a fool, and that his emotions are undermined by some debt that he himself says Brett didn’t have over him. He asks why should this dead man’s honor matter when he didn’t expect nor want it. (Interesting visuals connecting it back to the bird gifting Brett did to his brother. Giving what he “wanted” but not in a sane fashion). He didn’t care if he ignored what happened, he didn’t need it.
God this next part Brett looks like his dad, faceless and cold. He tells Hayden that he didn’t care what Hayden thought (WHY BRETT WHY) . Here’s where calls back to the convo if he would call Hayden if he was hurt and he answers no (FUCK). He says that he told him everything, and that they could try to understand each other but why ask if he couldn’t handle it.
This is getting too long, but essentially Brett breaks it off. Gives Car keys assumingly in Hayden’s hand. That this romance he dreams of, the puzzle pieces don’t match, they can’t work out. Though Brett does reminisce, he had fun. Hayden snaps and pumps out his pheromones but in the end he’s just crying. He tells Brett that it’s not him that’s running away but you. It ends as it rains in the back. Reminds me of chapter 6 in a way. I’m just sad
