Idk much but dating is a modern way of casually seeing someone who might / might not be seeing someone else . But going out means you guys are exclusive and are not seeing anyone else

you can date w/o being a couple. it's just a special day for both. even platonic friends do date.
it is different if you are referring to the term "dating" which is another word for going out.

When two people are "dating", this usually means they are in a relationship, which is more than friendship. often times, when a couple are "dating', its "exclusive', a special relationship between just the 2 ~ a bf/gf thing... or bf/bf, or gf/gf... er, you get the picture, right?
