From my understanding, there are two types of people who develop powers from sort of awakening: Espers and Guides

Espers:
They gain supernatural powers and abilities, but there’s a drawback to using them: these drawbacks can range from physical to mental danger and everything in between depending on the author.

A common way to combat that is through;

Guides:
Who support espers using their own powers that they’ve gained. Many authors write that guides have to supply touch or bodily fluids to transfer their powers/energy/etc. Some authors also write that guides essentially channel powers from espers and can use their abilities as well, but the premise is still the same.
