That did not look like a happy ending to me, yea they ran off together to live happily and in love. But the way that last chapter was constructed felt like Bard was really stuck in a delusion. He's so entranced by Maya that he's all he can think about and I feel that obsession might become dangerous or even more dangerous as he's already raped him due to his possessiveness. Idk it wasn't like a super sad depressing ending but it didn't seem happy to me, more somber if anything

I even pity Bard's wife 'cause she's just doing what she's supposed to do( but I still feel a little bit uncomfortable about the affair.... )And in the ending, all I can conclude about it was how dark it had become because of his deep obssession just like you said. But all in all I don't regret reading this story (=・ω・=)
