I feel like his evil was a higher power controlling him. Sort of like the "potion" (which I think was his blood) changed Angelica.
Too bad he doesn't get an entire redemption ark. I was kinda digging the whole Stockholm syndrome to the max thing. This is definitely beauty and the beast vibes with the library and everything lol
