I don't think she's stupid. They're both seeing the injustices that are being enacted against common folk. Isabel chooses to do something about it, and Marelyn is slowly learning about it.

He's mentally unwell. That's the only reason you'd enjoy self-harm like that. Some forms of pain actually do bring dopamine if you do it the right way, and the brain DOES stop producing if you keep doing it lightly. As someone who used to self-harm, I know this very well.
Him participating in this form of play is self-harm. He is depressed, and seeking a high. A high that can only be achieved by being reckless and feeling in danger. That's exactly what he's looking for.

I assume that he's into these things because he was in a NC situation before. People who have been through NC situations, especially as a child, get addicted to those situations because that's what they know. It feels familiar to be taken advantage of, and more often than not, those kinds of people are either addicted to sex, or loathe it completely.
We did see in the first episode he clearly loved the situation he was in, but he DID communicate that he hated it. And we can see that because the sex was unsatisfying, he didn't want anything to do with that person anymore, who ended up stalking him.
As someone who has lived that lifestyle of constantly putting myself in bad situations intentionally and unintentionally by being impulsive and reckless, the impulses DO die down if you deal with being fundamentally depressed and anxious.
Once I got into a solid, loving relationship, I've found myself loving more vanilla situations, and I definitely don't need as much pain to be turned on. I've found that the idea of being in pain and the idea of being "unsafe" and possibly "caught" are more than enough. But that's only because I'm completely safe and loved and cared for.
And that's why you need to experience those things in a safe setting. But ultimately Heewon just wasn't willing to give Taesoo that. He didn't like it. And he has every right to feel that way. Him letting this all happen was ultimately best for Taesoo because Taesoo needs to be able to WANT to get help and to help himself. If he doesn't want to get better, he'll get worse and worse.
I do think Heewon could definitely help him, and could have been that safe person for him. But that's a lot to ask of someone. Having someon3 help you move through those sides of yourself in ANY mental illness is a lot to ask of someone. Which is why people usually pay those kinds of people to help.
I just hope our MC gets the help he desperately needs and is able to become the loving partner Heewon deserves.
