This is absolutely NOT how a relationship should go. It kept getting worse and worse, they have been together for years and cannot communicate with each other, do not feel comfortable sharing their emotions, do not think of one another as equals and the only thing they enjoy doing together is having sex. Does those couples exist in real life? Yes. Is this the reality for most people? NO. The only thing that could save this story is both of them going to therapy, that would have been interesting to see. For everyone that thinks this is standard and normal to happen in real life, you need therapy too.
