Actually, they are exactly that, retarded. You can see in the novel even more clearly tgat the prince is incredibly dumb and so are all of his retainers. The only one with brains is Rachel's younger brother but even his IQ dropped immensely when he got involved with the loli.

Because even if they are the same person, Rowan treated her different from the start. When he's Lex, he's always open and more playful/cheesy. But when he's his real self, Rowan, it is hard to predict how he will react, so she's not used to him showing affection like Lex.

i think it's because despite being the same body rowan feels like a different person so she's not used to him yet to just receive his affections normally, even more so if you compare how he treated her right after starting to regain control of himself [he was really rude and agressive]...i think that must feel like knowing twins...even though they look the same they feel [as they should] different so you wouldn't treat both exactly the same
