I really like the 2nd couple more but I agree with another reader than they should have had a separate side story that just focused on them instead of sprinkled into the main couple's storyline.

I think it's a mixture of both. He's been in a predicament this whole time, and only thinking Ilay is using him for his own pleasure/use. But, Ilay also have known Tay since they were children (Tay doesn't remember him), so his interest goes a little bit deeper.
