It's a HAPPY ENDING. THANKFULLY.
I read the novel spoilers on novelupdates and apparently, spoiler alert:
Its a sad ending, one of the paragraphs wrote:
Later, Sasya closed his eyes comfortably and Karel returned home alone after his funeral and died by suicide with a pistol, but that was still half a century later. They just looked into each other's eyes, not knowing that their words had become a prophecy of the future.
Hope its not true though :(
Hello, i must say that you are mistaken but it's fine because some people tend to be confused or misinterpret the ending. I also did.
It clearly said, "That was still half a century later." Meaning, their deaths didn't happen after the main event of the story. They didn't die immediately.
Also, character's death doesn't equate to a sad ending. All mortal fictional characters will die at some point anyway, it's just not stated at the ending of every story to create a "happy ending" because some people find death of main characters distasteful. Excluding me because I believe as long as the characters were able to live their life with satisfaction, their death won't be in vain. I think this applies to both Karel and Sasya. At the end of the main events, they had so many years for each other. They definitely fixed their issues and learned how to love each other properly during that period, before Sasya died and before Karel followed him.
It's not really a bad ending, all people will die at some point anyway. What matters is that, both Sasya and Karel were safe after the main event and still got to live until nature took its course and took Sasya. It's probably an illness that took him, thankfully, he didn't die violently. "Sasya closed his eyes comfortably", I'll interpret this that Sasya was in peace until his last breath and contented because he was able to live his life with Karel. While finally learning how to love each other properly. It's also no surprise to me that Karel followed Sasya knowing how Karel is willing to risk everything for Sasya.
That's all. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ i love em both
I'm blessed truly blessed
