seeing that visualization of sohan “waiting in the same place for too long” made me tear up a bit. he rly tried so hard to have his dad love him/care for him like a real father would. now he’s moving on to better things but NOW SIHWA has health issues??? NOOOO
but i am seated for his parents’ love story. i see already that both father and son are good at getting into high places…./j

its very sad to give someone your all while trying to show them love and care as family should (usually), but when its never reciprocated, and your relationship with that person only results in hurt for you and enables the other to continue their toxic behavior—-ultimately—its not worth it sohan. you’re so young and have people who are more than willing to be a family better that those people who shared blood with you could ever be(even if they tried). and you have your lovely, slightly clingy and feral, alien girlfrie—i mean boyfriend! who didn’t look kinda yandere at the end of this chapter at all…but lets be honest—who wouldnt kill for our babygirl sohan? esp when the target was that pos!

the most toxic relationships are bred by a variety of things, but a lack of communication is one of the major ones, and here it is in this manhwa, exhibit A.

another big co-factor is underlying mental health issues and that is also very rampant in both of our protagonist’s heads. they were a train heading for disaster from the beginning.
Hell, the author even said it in the author’s note if you had read it. If cha taekyung and heeseo hadn’t been traumatized by the death/murder of heeseo’s mother(that clearly affected them in different ways), maybe they woulda had a healthy, cute relationship(with heeseo probably pursuing him as an adult). Cha taekyung would be better at communicating his feelings and thoughts with Heeseo, and Heeseo would be a brighter, more independent individual, with more friends and a community to support him and prevent him from developing dangerous codependent relationships like he did in reality. It woulda essentially been “quiet ball of sunshine” x “outgoing ball of sunshine.” Unfortunately, they were not born into such an ideal world, where nothing terrible like murder, deception, debt, and trauma exists. RIP our meet-cute story with our main couple ╥﹏╥

sohan has so much faith in that “maybe things can change between me and dad”/“maybe it’ll be different this time” and its frustrating but when you spend your whole childhood depending on someone, it can be hard to abandon them if you have that attachment to them. It would also affect his perception of his dad. No one wants to see someone they used to—or at least want to—respect and love as someone crazy or terrible. Esp not their parents. Even kids can either brag about or get bullied because of their parents’ identity/actions. its a weird thing, but everybody wants good parents, but when you don’t get that, how people react differs depending on the person (and situation).

His mom took 15-17 years to leave, and perhaps like his mom, he also needed to take a while to finally realize— that he will never change. and this moment, in the next chapter, will finally make him realize. hopefully. prayers or fingers crossed or manifesting idc i just rly need justice served to that piece of sh*t >:( if not at least want him to wake up to the consequences of his actions gaddammit. need him to see how he’s royally screwed up his whole life/family. and if he’s not gonna work on changing/fixing things, he needs to gtfo of sohan’s life.

the writer of the novel this webtoon was adapted from, Chima (or, ‘cm’), is also the writer for the novel “Necromancer Survival”!!

did they mention shar’s dad before in flashbacks? is he the king’s second love? cuz i thought his first love that he wanted to be with was a woman, and then that didnt work out cuz crazy empress lady…(?)

my personal theory is that all of the dickheads are each a different aspect of Cliff. Like somehow during a magic accident (probably to help Leon) gone wrong, he split into different people, each guy representing a part of his psyche.

deus(jock w/ anger issues): bloodlust/violent sexual lust/rage— the “id”, going by freud’s theory.

beryl(kicked puppy): fear, anxiety, attachment, sadness (“id” aligned)

memphisto(glasses): intelligence, cunning, logic
this is where freud doesnt work, superego is morality, and that doesn’t exist in our story. at all. but he could be “ego” aligned…

nergal(mpreg enthusiast leader): but if anyone is “ego,” who ensures that the impulses of the id can be expressed in a manner acceptable in the real world, and weighs the costs and benefits of an action before deciding to act upon or abandon impulses—-its naur-gal.

and because time seems to pass differently for these other-worldly creatures, the split happened years and years before these pieces of Cliff found their way back to Leon again(a very, understandably upset, angry Leon, who since Cliff “left him,” hasn’t aged a day)

so none of yall think he might just be pushing sihwa away on purpose?
1. we’ve already established that he has an anxious-avoidant attachment style or something similar
2. plus his fear of abandonment, so put them together and he’d rather push those who care away than watch them leave (he believes sihwa will have to go back home, and he cant go if he still has attachment to his life on earth)
3. sihwa also has attachment issues, but the unhealthy way it comes out for him is shown in the last chapter, where he clings so hard to sohan it tears skin. i’d say he’s more of an anxious attached style(or something along that vein). Not to mention the toxic teaching he had while growing up that all alphaens are superior to other races/ only the strong ones matter in the end.

4. their relationship was a lil codependent, as both had their own parent/childhood issues to bring to the table. but they each know how to balance each other out. sohan (literally and figuratively) brings sihwa down to earth, brings him off his superiority complex throne, and into his arms to know what it is to be human, to love, to have friends. while sihwa, brings sohan out of his head and the avoidant, isolationist behavior, forcing him to interact with others and express his feelings. in a way, sohan also learns what love is like with sihwa.

5. it started out as a sort of situationship, but i truly think they fell for each other for real. i believe they will resolve this fight because i think we all know they can be without each other for long.

it wont be long till sihwa jumps sohan while sohan is in the middle of the street thinking about how he misses sihwa, and then they are both teleported to the ship that will fly them to sihwa’s planet(yes its kidnapping, but its desperate, crazy sihwa, what’d u expect)

i want more of this fine man gadamn why tf is he so beautiful and charismatic only to be a side character!! That shot of him introducing his wind power while he looked like a living shampoo commercial with his long, silky black hair flowing in the wind was too powerful. Like i thought he was gonna be the love interest for a moment there.
