As a LA-adjacent native, I like seeing things take place in places I know about.
Most everything is based on NYC.

At some point it is mentioned that Brett was on route 55 coming from SD. Originally, I thought that was wrong because the main way to get to LA from SD is via the 5 fwy, and even if he lives in Bel Air (I think it was mentioned once), usually he’d take the 5 to the 73 to the 405, but I looked at a map and route 55 does cross both the 5 and the 405, so he could take the 5 to the 55 to the 405 (at least in theory) and get to Bel Air.
If it was done purposely, then major props to the author, because a quick google maps search from SD to Bel air sends you to the 5, 73, 405. No mention of the 55 anywhere.
It may not be the most straight way to get there, but it’s not a major, major freeway that people might casually know about unless you live in the OC.


Anyway, sorry for my long rant.

How interesting! Also SoCal based but I guess I missed the highway mention bc I fully thought Brett would be on the 5 based off the hills in the back when he got jumped, but the 5 is also busy as hell. But looking at the maps, I can totally see him coming back on the 5, going from the 73 to the 55, then taking the 57 up where it’s mountainy again, and I think that would’ve been the place where Brett got jumped. Also not many houses there and enough shrubbery for where *that* scene takes place. Idk why Brett would take such a convoluted way to get back, maybe to get those guys off his trail? Unlikely, best thing I got is terrible traffic which isn’t all too unbelievable

Side note, the author has mentioned they have friends back in California so it’s not too unlikely that they might’ve lived there or have family. They’re very familiar with the state which I honestly adore. Wouldn’t be surprised either that they got the 55 bc they were OC-based either seeing how Asian that county is. That’s enough author speculation for now though
