There was no atmosphere of it being soft, romantic, and wholesome from the get go so you have a warning to drop it from the very beginning because the setting of it is supposed to be disturbing and uncomfortable. That’s why it was one of the most memorable manhwa because it was consistent for its aggressive and violent tone.

If you kept reading POTN and demanded it to be more wholesome, that’s your mistake cause the story was not supposed to be for the weak hearted. I think a lot of early stuff get really popular because it was the first of its kind. Like, I remember the reincarnation into villainess stuff was pretty sparse but now it’s like every story is about that, but the ones from the beginning still have a loyal fan base and get good reviews, even though there’s five million of the same story now. Manhwas only got really popular within the past few years so the ones at the beginning have like the “forefather” effect where even if it wasn’t that good, it gets praised cause it was the start of it all. If it was created and published now, it’ll probably have a lot more negative reviews like some other newer toxic bls that are out now.

I just read this but I have never seen a review of POTN for being wholesome because the story was far from it. Although I have seen a lot of reviews of it being angsty and tear jerking (because it is). POTN is indeed a very great story with an amazing art. The plot is very deep and diversed if only you’re open minded about it.

But then again, just like food, it’s not for everyone. You prefer wholesome BLs - I get you. I totally get you because there are times I love me a soft BL. But there are times that I also like me a dark and complex BL that everyone might not digest.
