Ruth, the magician becomes somewhat of a mentor/friend figure, and is the first one to help her start getting her confidence back, especially with Riftan’s absence while visiting the royal palace. All of the staff in the castle treat her nicely, and she gains respect from them after finishing the castle renovations (with the help of Ruth). Two knight apprentices (who are about 16-17 years old) become friendly with Maxi, especially after she tells them somewhat exaggerated tales about the glorious deeds of Riftan (these two boys admire Riftan). Also, one of the knights that appear in the first 10 chapters of the manhwa (the one who has beard, I’m guessing thats him), is the first knight that starts treating Maxi somewhat kindly, although with awkwardness. This is important because the knights have a deep hatred towards count Croix (Maxi’s father) and they think that Maxi is of similar tendencies. He is the only knight for now to start thinking differently about her, because he sees that she is a king person.
Some parts of the story that help Maxi boost her confidence, in cronological order: renovating the interior of the castle, starting to managing the different parts of the castle in preparation for winter, helping Ruth to deal with healing a group of guards and common people after a werewolf attack (even though she felt terrible from the gruesome sight of these injured people to the point of vomiting, she still wanted to help somehow and be useful), and right know, she is starting to learn the basics of magic (Ruth told her that she has aptitudes for this).
Overall, I would recommend everyone to read the novel, as the fluff and spicy moments with Riftan are great, and Maxi is little by little opening up to her very loving husband.

On another note, i love this manga. It think it's very easy to write a romanticized story about the world of the yakuza/mafia, as people have certain ideas and fantasies. It's even more easy to do so if the story involves romantic relationships. But just as Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai (another great yakuza themed manga and recently animated movie) Raise wa Tanin ga Ii builds wonderfully the story. It discards any reader that would be only interested in the possible romantic relationship between Yoshino and Kirishima, and gathers a dedicated audience that stays for the story (because we know that it wont be soon until we see progress, if there will be any). Also, I find every character to be interesting, even our little dumb Nao. Yoshino is badass, but very casual and funny at the same time; Kirishima is bonkers, but I find him to be very endearing and child-like (just as Yoshino says); Tsubaki, Yoshino's cousin is bonkers too in the head, but in a different way in comparison to Kirishima. And at the end of the day, we can't forget that this is not really a romance manga; it's a seisen.
So, let's stay and see where this wonderful story will lead us to. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
I absolutly adore Yoshino. She is a great character because of the different ways she reacts to things. And this is just my personal opinion, but Kirishima is a good character too. Not to say that he is a good person, but a well written fictional individual. I don't know if there will be any feelings involved between them (at least not from Yoshino), but I can see them having a sexual relationship. But that would probably miss the point of the story, and most importantly, the personality of Yoshino.
Anyways, this is a long ride. We will see some personal development between the two of them in the next chapter, but probably nothing major. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
It's funny because Jooin will probably end with Yahwi at the end, even tho he treated him like shit. He's gonna blame it on some chilhood trauma as always, and Jooin is gonna forgive him. And like, don't get me wrong, Cain is sus as heck; I don't know what the fuck he is hidding, but al least he's treating Jooin better.
But well, we're here for the long ride. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
As a long time fan of Harada's work, I yet again stumble on people not knowing what kind of stories she makes and getting trumatized. For that, I'm sorry you had to experience this. If you didn't like this work, it's safe to assume you wouldn't like the majority of her other mangas, and that's a totally valid and fair opinion. But, if you understood the message that this story had, and you're not someone who gets easily disturbed, then please read her other works. It's not for everyone, but I feel like she touches on very serious themes that the majority of manga authors are afraid of even get near by.
