Right! Like when he told her this matter isn't something you should concern yourself with, omg such a trigger for me. My husband has told me that one time in our marriage and that's all it took. In a marriage anything that goes on in his life or in this house concerns me. This isn't a one sided thing.
Like honestly the construction and deals and whatever Riftan is doing pertaining to their territory should be her concern. Being his wife puts her in authority to at least know wtf is going on. Even if she doesn't have a say (even though she should) he should at least let her know what's going on. Maybe then she can feel more involved and confident about being by his side.

I think riftan dosnt want maxi to be part of this business conversation here, not because he looks down on her abilities or feels shes like a niieve child; but more so because he knows agness' well enough to know what her real motives/ true personality can be like, and he knows agness will be playing mental 4d chess in order to manipulate maxi to doing whatever she wants her to do, no matter how low. Riftan knows how much psycological abuse maxi has suffered in the past, and he definatly dosnt want her to be around that kind of toxic atmoshere anymore than she has to be.

While I do agree that I don’t think Riftan means any harm towards Maxi, I think he is still treating her kinda poorly here. He doesn’t know the abuse she’s experienced in the past, so he’s keeping her from his work not to protect her from reliving pain, but because he thinks she was too sheltered and doesn’t know anything. Which to him isn’t a bad thing. Multiple times in the story, he’s thought that he has to maintain how he thought she was treated. He doesn’t know she was abused, but he knows she was sheltered and plans to continue doing so. It’s probably just because she’s physically weak and he thinks of her as very precious, but that’s still infantilizing her. He’s treating her like an ornamental bird kept in a cage for fear of losing it rather than letting it fly. I’m not saying Riftan is a bad person, and is locking her up (figuratively) on purpose, but he is treating her poorly and I think anyone in this situation would feel like they didn’t have any agency

Yup, exactly. He thinks she grew up lavishly and is trying hard to keep up that lifestyle for her, not knowing that isn't the case. He's taking everything work wise upon his shoulders trying to keep her from harms way, so to speak. But that treatment, while good-natured from his perspective, is taking its toll mentally on Maxi.
Of course neither of them really communicate so that doesn't help matters either.

Very very well put and I totally agree. I was just too in my feelings after reading the most recent chapters.

Ok. I see your point. I supose im a little bias here because ive read some breif spark notes of the novel this is based on once, and now i tend to uncosiously let it sway my judgement of certain sceenes.( Idk how you feel about spoilers so i wont go into details about it. ) but i know If i was living her same situation, id prob be upset by his words here too.

I feel you too though esp knowing you've read the og novel. I really really wanna get into it but I also wanna experience the manga fresh. Dilemma dilemma...
