Like what is the story at this point I don't get it. Just a bunch of plots loosely tied together and most things mentioned have no bearing on eachother or just a chapter passed and it's irrelevant

Was she locked in a cabin her entire memorable part of her life? No she wasn't she was just there sometimes? Or always? But she met the family? But the first thing she remembers is being in the cabin? Or was it in a wagon or what? I hate it and think this backstory should be illegal.
