Which I also don’t even get bc the English chapters are literally 5 chapters behind the Korean chapters and this person doesn’t even buy their own raws while they’re telling y’all to do that… hypocrisy at its finest

ALSO now that some of you guys have seen/heard that and how the author behave do you guys get why I tend (and fail at times) to put up those placeholders? Like I get you guys wanna read head but with the fact the chapters being bot uploaded out of order the last thing I want is major attention drawn here about illegal fan translation and her behaving exactly like that

You’re very much welcome also nope, it was really just something separate that happened on Twitter, the author just lurked on someone’s page, saw something about some AU tweet & went ballistic for some strange reason it’s so dumb I couldn’t believe she acted like that for zero reasons

Probably a straw that broke the camel, not defending the author, but fans outside of Japanese/Korean sphere are sometimes something entirely else, the worst sort of demanding weebo who think that creators own them a favour. Add a level of different (not) understanding of how their own copyright work by Asian creators, who are very protective of their work and strong cultural expectations and differences, and the storm of emotions, protectiveness, misunderstanding is brewing.

I'm reading comments here and people expect from the author to react like a Westerner would- either ignore or be apologetic, while they forget that there is language and cultural barrier .

From my own experience I would compare it to early deviantart wars over tracing. Some people got really buthurt over other tracing, and they refused to u derstand that is a legit artistic tool. Nope, this was the original sin in early days. And it's the same for Asians and the fanworks/copying/redistributing. It was a thing 20 years ago with mangas and doujins, it is a thing now. They don't see the difference between what this site does and what the fans do as a tribute- in their minds it just infringes their rights without any nuance. And as you noted, site like this exist in the shadows since at least the 90ties so the precedent for lawless English speaking fans was set 20-30 years ago. And at least Japanese (and I expect other Asian countries too given how influential they are one over another) copyright laws has some quirks about fair use that US law doesn't so it makes it even more murky and weird to Western audiences and the author has way more control over their work than in the US.

And there's also the fact that many Asian artists just don't like Western fans and go to sometimes extreme lengths to keep us out, like password protecting their sites with kanji riddles. It was a thing for many good years and I guess feelings of that sort might linger.

This of course does not justify sending a mob after somebody. But I hope it explains their reasoning, because it isn't as baseless, just thoroughly misguided in this one case. (Or the author might just be a shit person, I wouldn't know).
