you have to consider the universe they're in, if losing control is a part of their world building during a rut, then it must be integrated in their common sense. Not ours, but theirs. Our role is to read, it's a cannon phenomenon in their world therefore it exists to them. Its common knowledge to them, as an alpha himself, he knows rut makes them crazy and this can be considered an "accident" to them, even if it sounds ridiculous to us, sinply because its a phenomenon that doesn't exist in our world

Maybe there is a perfect omegaverse out there (haven't read it yet tho, would love to) where ruts/heats dont involve losing ones complete self and they're able to stop in between when their partner is overwhelmed and wants a break but this isn't one of those stories so.....maybe people should stop using other omegaverse to rationalize what happened here because all omegaverse come in different shapes and sizes.
