I've read alot of fucked up stories But this ain't it.. Them people who give this a 5 star
Needs help asap..
Not really some good plot here.
It's not because an author put in a book all the ingredients that will make people enrage, angry, feel sorry and frustrated... that it'll necessarily be a well written story. And this one has a poor treatment in its plot. Just making that weak, traumatised Uke going through all this shit then make him lose his memory just for him to be end game with the ML... that manner of doing can only happen in Yaoi genre and the work be accepted by editors. Even in Horror genre, you've gotta get some morals/punishment/karma.
In Shonen or Seinen genres, such plot that lacks purpose and redemption or philosophical message would never be accepted. But anyway, no one really gives a fuck about yaoi plots, since most are poorly written and are just porn.
Sometime you need to read something else other than BL yaoi to know what's really a good story.
Eh. I read a lot of stuff outside yaoi, and only yaoi consistently makes me FEEL, probably because the editors aren’t going around censoring shit to make it acceptable for prudes with zero media literacy who expect fiction to teach morality. And writing does not only mean plot events (what a shallow interpretation of writing). Writing includes prose, dialogue—and in the case of webtoons, it also includes paneling and art. Dumping darkness and rape into a story doesn’t make it good, which is why it’s far above similar stories like Dark Fall, Frenzy Train, and No Reason, which are pretty much just rape porn without meaning (which also has a right to be written in FICTION, thanks). The paneling in this is incredible and easily conveys the horror and despair the MC is feeling.
Also I get the feeling you aren’t very well read if you think literature in any sense promotes “karma” or “morals” lol, never heard something so ridiculous in my life. What about Fight Club, Blood Meridian, Fahrenheit 451, American Psycho, or A Clockwork Orange? These stories also discuss morals but the characters are immoral and get away with it (sometimes). You must read only YA or fantasy romance where they write for prudish women who need the morals of the story clearly laid out for them and all justice neatly delivered in a nice package or it’s “problematic.” Yeesh. Well, that’s not what I want from literature…
Art isn't special here*, but yes the panels are showing the horror MC-Uke goes through, and the sadism of ML. It'll not be surprising that the goal of such "plot" is for voyeurism, for this Yaoi to show nothing but rape, abuse and finally a simplistic resolution to that mess of story. Btw art can be great and panelling can be well done, that doesn't excuse a poor plot.
I think no one expect FOR YAOI to teach morals, we all know too that it's fiction and mostly poorly written in that genre. Though poorly written, if you're not expecting a bit of common sense, for what are you reading a story, exactly?
If you're reading it just for the sadistic, nasty porn, at least acknowledge it, but don't speak like it's a piece of litterature.
I have personally no problem with dark and rapey yaois, IF the whole scenario makes sense a bit and if the treatment of the plot was done respectfully.
If you write stories and know a bit about the world of edition and the conditions of publication, you'll know that such content can only be seen in porn and yaoi. Not because of the reasons that you mention, but because Yaoi, for most people = Smut, porn. Editors just don't care as long as it's within the law of publishing, because they're not expecting anything great.
There are hopefully great stories and complexe scenarios in BL, but these are pretty rare, and this manwha isn't amongst them.
*Isn't worth my time spending on such yaoi
Don't give me your poor excuse, please. I read everything, and surely more genres than you who stick to yaoi only and movies. One of my favs is horror, lol.
There are thriller movies, movies on serial killers etc... yes the morals and manner of doing of the MC can be questionable, but at the end of the day bad people are arrested and ghosts liberated. Only in yaoi and porn you see such plot and reader like you who say it's great work.
Apparently you like stories when an abuser ends up with the victim, I shouldn't but I'm a bit worried about your mental there.
Once again, I have no problem with the content of Non Zero Sum, it's the treatment that I find bad. It's just nasty porn at this point, whether you like it or not.
HUH?? HUH??? Omo.. what a twist..
