In reality it's all the father's fault. He is a psychologist, so he understands how people think and their behaviour. He uses this to manipulate everyone and make them be the way they are, he is the truly wicked one that planned everything and ruined the lives of his children and wives.
I personally really hate him and he makes me feel uncomfortable and unsettling. All the characters are well done and have a strong presence, the author really does a wonderful job with portraying them and their ways of thinking, in this way we can see the change in behavior caused by the manipulation of that wicked man.
