Even Though I’m the Villainess, I’ll Become the Heroine!
So much potential, but the plot progression and relationships development is absolute trash. The translations are bad which might contribute to how shitty the story is progressing, but it’s honestly not an excuse that can explain why the arch duke bypassed Dhalia to help Florre at the salon and then turned around to save Dhalia from spilled wine. He explains it’s because he doesn’t want people to talk about Dhalia but that just sounds like sweet talk excuses because when they first arrived at the salon he certainly didn’t do shit to stop the people who whispered and talked shit about her. He seems like a complete flake and is wishy washy as hell, eugh. On top of that she got all flustered and believed his words which really just leads me to think she’s too easily swayed and will likely be set up because she doesn’t think things through. Like she asked him not to get involved and her reputation wasn’t the best already in the first place so there was nothing for her to ruin. If anything, taking the opportunity to fight with her sister out in the open allows her to put it out there the illegitimacy of her sister which would put the sister in a bad position and not her. But instead she believed his bullshit words and didn’t think it through just makes me so mad. There’s all this other shit too, like how she easily convinced him to marry her made no sense at all: I really wanted to like this but it’s just trash and is obviously not well thought out but simply follows the popular tropes of reincarnation. Had so much potential with the traveling to new world with nemesis from previous life. Could have gone into more details about why the relationship soured or even what else exactly Florre did to Dhalia that led to her suiciding and why Florre attempted to pull her up which led to Florre dying as well. But instead that was all bypassed as a given and a shitty plot happened. What a waste.
There Were Times When I Wished You Were Dead
Virtues of the Villainess
FL has no redeeming qualities and is completely driven by a need for love. Her mind only revolves around love and she measures her worth through whether she’s able to have a better man than her enemy. Like girl, just live for yourself why so concerned about other people, makes her such a shallow and petty character that I honestly don’t understand why she’s the FL. The title is such a waste too, there are no virtues to speak of for this FL, she’s an absolute airhead who can’t do jack.
Under the Oak Tree
A very realistic portrayal of a character who was abused and therefore incapable of having the self-confidence to make decisions or believe that anyone could like her. However, it’s a pain in the ass and an absolute drag to read. Maxi keeps oscillating between enjoying herself and being mired in the memories from a Croix castle and never speaks her mind. Riftan on the other hand just seems like he likes Maxi for the sex, never mentions anything else. There’s no communication, and only a semblance of consent in their relationship. And even after 45 chapters there’s no progress and the initial problems were never resolved. They don’t communicate so they don’t trust each other on certain things, it’s such a pain to read. Great translation and art, but there’s no progression in the relationship or plot.
The Time of the Terminally Ill Extra
I need to see karmaic justice acted upon the count’s family and the doctor Nocturn. It’s absolutely disgusting how they have no remorse and still get to live comfortably. If anything I feel as if the parents and the doctor should suffer.
Her father in particular is a weak-willed miscreant who would rather believe his daughter is simply throwing a fit and misbehaving instead of believing that she has an incurable disease and won’t go find her to support her. It’s such an upsetting contrast compared to how he worries so much over his youngest daughter. It’s as if the older daughter doesn’t deserve love or respect as an individual and how it came to such an outcome is something I can’t understand. If there could be more on the thought process of her father and family and if it could ever be resolved would make the story more satisfying and wholesome instead of leaving it as a given that some parents just don’t love their children because although there are such cases I want it to be made clear and explained for the reasons so that there are no loose ends or regrets because it’s simply maddening.
