i was thinking the ex-gf could also mean that she wasn't willing to be a stand-in for hotaru anymore, her as hotaru is "dead"

Sure. The thing is that the younger brother wasn’t aware of how serious is an incest relationship, he was not serious about it at all, treating it lightly. I think the reason the older brother hit him wasn’t because he was angry (but maybe that too) but mostly because he wanted to make a fake impression on others that they don’t get along in order to prevent any possible suspicions about the sick nature of their relationship. In order for it to be possible (since they are just in school) keeping it in secret is very important unless they don’t want to get separated... that’s why the older brother was angry with the younger one not understanding the importance of this matter and being ignorant.

Basically since the older brother wants to keep up the front, wants to pretend everything is ok so he tries to make his brother continue living in “the sun”. The younger brother tho found out how comfortable it is to be in the shadow (he basically fakes his real self in school etc in order to make his older brother happy). In other words younger brother pretends to be normal since that’s what the older one wants but at this point he basically already isn’t. And he likes the shadow where his older brother is. Just continues to pretend for The others sake
In other words the “smell of sun” is basically the older brother convincing himself that the younger brother can “live on normally” even though he already dragged him together with himself to the darkness. Where the darkness is of course the one type of relationship you definitely shouldn’t be in, the investors one.

Yes we do because thats what the author is highlighting. The author herself said the reason you fall in love is important BUT the reason you fall OUT of love is important as well. These comparisons are the reasons so it is part of the plot.
Joowon’s behaviour, attitude, and treatment of Haesoo give the reader every right to complain. Trolls are unwelcome, but truthful comparisons between (the possessive & egotistical) Joowon and (the non-possessive) Taku are to be expected.
Yes, some people go over-board. I could note down countless times where J-fans have belittled T-fans, and vice versa. But dear god, if you’re complaining about people trashing Joowon, then re-read the latest chapter; it’s shown that Joowon sees Haesoo as his possession, wants to have him completely under his control, and even said Haesoo should “die” if he’s not with him. He’s cruel, harsh, possessive & thinks only of himself. There is no consideration of Haesoo’s feelings. I could go on, with what we know from the previous chapters & the raws.
lol the audience just have to be given a little romantic scene to build the ship, they dont think whats the purpose of the ship or what lies beneath the ship they build.
