seeing people tag this as age gap gave me a whiplash... is 2 year difference under the age gap category now? I know it technically is a gap but it wasn't considered as an age gap TAG before when the gap were small

It's bc one was in HS while the other in college. As someone in their second year in college, despite being only one or two years apart, I find it weird to date a highschooler. We're just at different levels. It's like a middle schooler dating an elementary school kid. It's weird despite only a year or two age difference. Like a 7th grader has no buisness dating a 5th grader, so why do I have any business messing with a HSer as someone thats a grade 2 college student. Hince the labeling "gap"

You didn't read what I commented properly. It's an age gap if ones a minor and the other isn't, especially if one is in high school and the other is a second year college student. The only way a 2 year age gap is not considered a gap is if they are both out of HS. Age gaps was made to describe weird or unnormal relations, hince why it's a label and not unlabeled. College student × Highschool student is still considered an age gap. A gap in their age.

It's 'cause people consider someone being 18 and dating a 17 yo "illegal" these days.
Someone could literally be 6 months older, landing them at 18 before their partner, and people would have a fit over it.
When I see age gap I'm thinking like 6-7+ years. I'm not thinking someone who literally went to the same schools but one or two years apart. It's brainrot.

Ya'll just moving goalposts atp.
I'd understand maaaaybe an iota if these two were strangers, but they literally grew up together. Madoka has known Tama since the day he was born. They were raised together AND went to the same schools together. Tamaki isn't even emotionally more mature than Madoka given neither of them have any experience other than Tama having a couple girlfriends he wouldn't even kiss.
If you're trying to make this an emotional intelligence argument here then I'll say they are on the same level. Just 'cause someone is in college doesn't mean they're intelligent either. I'm a university dropout 'cause I was too stupid and immature to continue my education lol
I'd say you have an argument if Tama was like 5+ years older, but 2 years ain't shit when they've been in the same schools their entire lives.
I wish instead of getting angry, Jaehyuk felt more sympathetic and reflected internally as well. since way before he changed, he definitely would've done the same thing if he was entangled with a guy considering how homophobic he was and that only meant he was raised in a prejudiced household as well. I don't think he ever apologized for his prejudice too, this would've been a nice arc for the author to utilize that and make him reflect his past actions better. unfortunately his reactions were more superficial
though I'm still hoping this gets addressed in the future, maybe with an encounter with his parents and he gets to talk and reflect about the homophobia and all that after his parents reject his relationship with garam
Sorry! Meant to upvote. I’d really love a redemption arc for his homophobia too.
Honestly, same; we're long due some serious reflection on Jaehyuk's part but I don't think we're going to see that in this "arc"; narratively speaking, this would be the time to vindicate Garam about his ex's shitty behavior, as well as to "terminate" him (again, narratively speaking, I'm not talking muder, just him not showing up anymore) so that he is no longer a threat to Garam's current life. So in a way, as this is supposed to be more about Garam and this specific trauma with his ex, I doubt they'd try to tackle Jaehyuk's past behavior as well. In a way it's understandable, since storytelling won't always follow the most "logical" path; so even if it'd be sensible for both issues to be addressed at the same time irl, there is a reason to separate conflicts further apart when working with a comic (especially since it's a normal morden setting, and you have less of a leeway in how many conflicts it's sensible to throw at your characters)
But anyway I'm rambling atp my bad I am still hoping it gets adressed later, too. I think there is a high chance this will be brought up whenever one of Jaehyuk's friends show up again, since this point was discussed halfway with that one girl friend of his, in that restaurant. Hopefully Jaehyuk has already had some progress on that front when talking to his parents, tho, or the drama is sky rocketing ( ̄∇ ̄")
But would he have done the same thing tho? When Jaehyuk got caught having sex with his female friend, I don’t think he put the blame on her? (not that his parents would allow that lmao) The situation isn’t the same ofc, since he wasn’t caught with a guy, but I’d like to think that he wouldn’t treat Garam like his ex did
But I agree with the inner reflection point you made, Jaehyuk really needs to evaluate his actions and apologise to Garam at some point soon
in the first chapters he was already blaming garam for "seducing" him so I wouldn't put it past him ngl...
nah I understand that but that way of storytelling is really linear. even a bit of hint of him realizing he was doing something in the same vein as garam's ex would've done it to set it up for a later arc that focuses mainly on it. imagine if he was super angry saying all that stuff against garam's ex and had to pause midway cause he realized he has been doing some shitty things too? peak. I appreciate authors who could pull that kind of storytelling off each time. set it up now, explore it later. it also makes the characters have more depth than being one dimensional
I agree, but as time goes on I realize it's not really everywhere you will find a setup>payoff that really feels earned like that but I mean, maybe there's still time right? Doesn't hurt to dream lol
While I agree with wishing for Jaehyuk to explicitly apologize for his past actions (hoping we still get that in future chapters), I have to disagree in the part where you said Jaehyuk would've done the same thing as Garam's ex.
You wouldn't be comparing the ex to fuckbuddy Jaehyuk but to the Jaehyuk who's already dating Garam, and the difference in how boyfriend Jaehyuk would act from the ex-boyfriend is best seen when the red-haired girl found out about their relationship (he literally didn't deny anything and defended Garam). Basically, the ex went into the relationship without the balls to commit while Jaehyuk already acknowledged that he was an asshole and changed himself before committing in a relationship with a man.
For me, since they missed the chance of bringing up the homophobic thing here, I think it could instead be brought up when they get outed either publicly or to Jaehyuk's parents. Garam probably still has some fear about breaking up from getting outed because of the hurtful things he heard from the ex's mom and Jaehyuk in the past, so I'm thinking Jaehyuk could apologize and reassure that their relationship will be fine.
why can't we compare the two though? why are we setting the criteria for comparison at "it should be in a situation where they're dating!"? you could still be caught in the act without dating and he would've done the same point blank. he was caught having sex with a girl by his parents, what did he do? blame the girl as well saying it was her fault he was in that situation.
Okay, I reread the post, I actually missed the part where you said "since way before he changed," so sorry for that. If it's way before he changed then yeah, it's a fact that he was the type to blame Garam and even say insults like the ex's mom did, so the chapter really would've been a good point to have some reflection that leads to an explicit apology.
I just immediately assumed we're putting Jaehyuk in the ex's exact situation and thought it was weird that fuckbuddy Jaehyuk's characterization is being used in the role of a boyfriend. I realized you were just drawing similarities with how he was in the past after rereading.
yeah, maybe I should've made that clearer cause reading it again it can cause some confusion. and no worries
