I agree with OP saying the uke might have been assaulted in the orphanage and he prolly killed the offender however I don't think his childhood friend was just a witness.
in my opinion, the childhood friend contributed to the murder, he was prolly assaulted with the uke or knew the uke was assaulted and convinced the uke to commit the murder, they are best friends so the uke was manipulated by him in a sense and agreed to do it just cause the seme is his friend and he trusted him. I also think that the seme has mental issues and thinks that the murder he committed with his friend is smth only the 2 of them know of and its a special bond that's why when the uke forgot about it he was more mad about him forgetting their childhood than being sad for his friend losing his memory
