The brother was threatening him and because of the trauma he experienced from his father, he tried to please the aggressor to avoid further conflict.

When the brother was starting to get physical, the MC can't help but freeze on the spot. He felt helpless and panicked. Just like when you stumble upon a wild animal, not all of them run immediately, some of them freeze on the spot and you see the fear in their eyes.
