It’s good that the FL is understanding him a bit more, but she really needs to take responsibility. Even though that was already his fate (probably better), she still told a 12-16yr old to go on deadly missions, completely disregarding letting him make relationships with other ppl. So of course you’re gonna get someone who behaves closer to a dog than a human.
