not exactly locked. the one who is marked just needs pheromones. pheromones from any of the snake tribe's members will do but if the pheromones don't belong to the marker they end up doing more damage. ivan's pheromones weren't compatible with the mark so they just provided short term relief and were actually making things worse in the long term. and i think i remember reading that the mark has been removed too so there's no threesome situation now lol
