just reiterating the similar points said in the comments, the characterizations and their associated themes, i find that the exploration of hayden’s conflict with animalistic urges and their associations with romance and sex to be a very interesting concept. using the abo AU feels like a great way to explore that, especially when the other party is of equal standing yet views things in a different way.

the unpredictability that brett enjoys and the claim of “realistic pursuits” for handling the more animalistic natures of sex being pitted against hayden’s desire for control of biological needs and a higher emotional association with them; it’s definitely enjoyable to see more romance series explore ideologies in ways that aren’t considered conventional, yet relay a significant message the same.

This chapter lays out how Hayden and Brett are different really well:

Hayden believes that humans can, and should, rise above their “animal” instinct; he finds concepts like nobility, sacrifice and love very attractive. Brett is a “realist” and find those concepts ridiculous, and thinks there is nothing wrong w/ just accepting your nature.

Brett is also a huge thrill seeker and adrenaline junkie. He likes taking risks and unpredictability. He doesn't like plays bc he doesn’t like the fact that an ending is already decided by someone else. He likes football because he likes how the ending could go differently every time.

this is how Brett keeps dominance; ie. he likes unpredictability bc he doesn't want anyone deciding his "story"/"fate".

But what’s interesting is that Hayden writes scripts; so he’s the one who “decides” on the ending when he writes. So fundamentally Hayden and Brett have incompatible personalities and expectations. In some ways this is kind of a fight for “power” between two alphas with their notions of how the world should operate. Which is why this is SOOOO GOOOD.

Its good in the portrayal of enforced societal norms on lgbtq+ people but its sort of not that good in the way that it shows love as fixed. Throughout the manga, characters around mc and mc both acknowledge that the love when you get hard is different to ‘love’ love. Personally, I don’t really like this as it insinuates that eros is not a love however phillia is true ‘love’ love but then mc’s actions go against this when he starts beliveing otherwise; going completely astray from his previous conclusion. This pushes the narrative that love is love only when you feel sexual attraction which is further implied when mc says he ‘like-likes’ the girl, with no references to platonic love, explaining his feelings as like instead of love. It is also harmful in the way that it suggests that if two men like each other they are gay, If two women like each other they are lesbian, and if a man and woman like each other they are straight. It categorises people of the lgbtq+ into boxes which is exactly against the poing of the lgbtq+ movement. Giving them only three boxes as it does in this manga disregards the fact that bisexual, pansexual or even people who are sexually attracted to one gender but not romantically attracted cant exist. This is a very real and uplifting manga however it’s clear that the author only has gay men in mind thus making this quite a toxic read because of it’s (perhaps unintentional) underlying messages.

As (kinda) good as this read was, i found it shallow. The themes weren’t really handled with care and for the author to touch on the surface of pedophilia but draw an underaged girls boobs and an underage boy having sex it fell through. So much could have been said and you can tell this was written for straight people and not queer people at all. Honestly disappointing since I was looking forward to this dynamic between the mc and his gf. I’m also very upset his girlfriend was written so one dimensional. Ok i lied this read was ass. Go read Blue flag yall.

Why do i feel like the seme is about to bring out his cut up body to show to his hyung now? Also this story is gonna end up the same way it started with them both murdering each other. Which is honestly a good ending to this type of plot. I can't see it ending any way else

I feel more interested with mind reader kun, especially since he's the only other person who's aware they're in a bl world and I feel like he's the only character the mc cant bs his way out of. The potential is And no offence to hatano but even tho he is cute he doesn't really stand out much, he just feels like another normal bl character so him ending up with mc is kinda hmmm

Saw a comment
"if he ended up being the "I'm 50 and have always been single" BL trope?
He'd have to dodge Puppy dog subordinate flag, Divorced Best Friend flag, taking my sole companion aka cat to the handsome vet flag, getting cancer and being taken care of by a handsome nurse flag....
My dead brother's widower boyfriend flag, I became an adoptive father flag, I retired or went on a vacation flag...
You'll never escape dude, just give in. Otherwise you'll become the 80-year-old "Encourage the Young Gay Couple By Expressing My Regret" trope"
THIS IS TOO DAMN FUNNY. NO ESCAPE! IT'S BEEN ON MY MIND THE WHOLE DAY LOL.
