The problem with a damaged core is it gets worse as time goes by, the more you use force control the more damage it gets. Until you lose the ability to use force control entirely. And the only cure is begging and kissing Kartein's ass. So it's not really a tie, he lost because Jiwoo basically crippled him. He'll eventually lose his awakened abilities unless he manage to get it cured.
