ive been reading up to chapter 153 of the novel and let me tell you guys the romance gets rough, maxi is a victim of abuse and still has a lot of unhealthy thoughts that don’t get really resolved sooner or later (duh) and riftan becomes super overprotective to the point where he doesn’t let her out of the house, especially after certain events like her learning healing magic and almost getting killed outside castle walls. It’s going to take a lottttt of time before she builds up proper independence and for riftan to support her, so this is going to be super slowburn and tbh so far very frustrating to read as a woman myself. so if you’re willing to make a commitment with this couple then get ready for a bunch of bs
