Maybe so people won't be suspicious with how cracked she is? Like dabbling into black magic to be as good or something along those lines
Normally they come up with excuses "i learned in a dream" or like "its intuitive, im self taught" or like "i was taught by some wandering master"
The only justifiable reason i could think of is that learning requires external guidance. Like to level up you need some kind of outside magic help or something idk like how some pokemon evolve based on trading or items
The magic system might be different in this world there might be different requirements for learning magic than there are normally. Well just have to wait and see if it's ever addressed or not why she can't just learn it with her past knowledge.

That's a really good point. It would also be weird if someone just appeared and was using 80yr old magic that may not be in use anymore.

He probably sees himself in the condition shes talking about. Like even though marielle alrdy said he is her type, he doesnt rlly believe her. So when she starts talking about like being forced into marriage and having no choice to reject it(even though she was talking about the price and stuff) it makes him feel like she doesnt actually want to marry him, or that she was forced to marry him unwillingly. In short he imagined himself and her inti her discussions about the price and the candidate. Which probably exploded when he heard her saying that "she might've liked someone else". So like he mad/jealous at his imagination lol
