Romance is an integral part of our world, so is war and violence, it also makes the characters feel human and usually isn't overdone, yet people drop entire series if there's even a hint of feelings, pfffft maybe they're just jealous
What I'm curious about is why would you drop a really good manhwa where everything else is to your liking simple because the main character is human and cares about someone else, i understand preference but I'm curious about the underlying psychological factors that leads to people avoiding mention of positive human connection
I think it depends on the person, everyone got different taste and such so it isn't that weird if they drop action series if it got romance, what's disrespectful is them not respecting other people's preference. Me personally I also don't like it when Action Series adds Romance to the mix because...
1. I want the focus to be on Action and Character Development and such but I do know that romance doesn't take those away. 2. I just want some Ace/Aro representations in the Characters 3. The plot strays and most of the time, the romance isn't executed properly 4. Sometimes it's out of character of the MC and such when they have romance cause they're character is supposed to be cold and aloof etc. 5. The love interests doesn't have any personality or character, they simply acts as a clout for Romance 6. The chemistry is not there and once again the romance is not executed properly
And I have more other reasons but those are most of what I observed. I do have some Action Series that have Romance that I like and read like "The Novel's Extra" cause the Romance is done properly and doesn't feel out of place, the characters are well made and doesn't OOC just because of Romance.
Overall, It depends on the person and how the author executes Romance so let's just respect other people's preferences.
That makes a lot of sense, whats intresting to me is where do we draw the line at whats too much or too little, also i agree if it's made unrealistic (female has no personality, or mc is completely out of character for no reason) then it's a turn off, but I think people ought not to be so prejudiced towards a certain type of romance in general.
I think, and this is my very personal opinion, but it’s because romance is usually written horribly in these types of stories mainly because the main plot point wasn’t romance in the first place. Also, many times the love interest is horrible (either dull, or stupid, but it makes me question why the MC would fall in love with them). Additionally, sometimes when an author adds romance, the characters just become stupid “in love”. In short, I just think that romance is usually shoehorned so it doesn’t feel organic.
