The emotion is completely lacking.

I personally think the art style and emotional storytelling fits the perspective very well. We're generally reading from Yuri's POV and as a person, he's pretty....monotone (or in a nicer way, stable). Yuri isn't prone to intense emotions. There's a part of the novel that describes him like a cow grazing in the field; very calm, peaceful but bland and boring. Also, from his pov, Xinlu looked beautiful as he was drowning.

That's such an accurate description lol
After letting giving it time to marinate I realised, although the art style is very pretty, I keep comparing it to the art style of the main series.
It's the issue of "if it deviates from the original, it can't just be 'just as good as', it has to be better otherwise why change it", This happens with a whole bunch of remakes/reboots, etc. If I came across this art style in any other webcomic I would love it. I'll probably enjoy it now that I figured out what bothered me - I was expecting an orange when I got a mandarin, both fruits I enjoy but there was the confusion (and misdirected blaming) when I didn't get what I originally had in mind. Cheers
Tangent: I've just watched the How To Train Your Dragon live action, it was incredibly faithful, and I did I enjoy my time watching it, but I do know that some reviews would say "Might as well watch the original animated movie", which I don't disagree, but there's the dilemma of people would be harsh and _pissed_ if changes were made. And I was acting like that for this series.
This artwork is completely emotionless - just a bland dialogue box with no depth.
I have no idea why the author went with this artist. There are countless others who could have done a far better job.
No sugarcoating it - the current artist is simply not cut out for something like Passion: Raga. ┐( ˘_˘)┌
Exactly
Should’ve just offered yourself as the artist. Clearly you would’ve delivered a masterpiece. It’s always the ones reading for free who’ve got the most to say... Maybe next time try contributing something other than hot air.
Very annoying that I can't like replies to a comment
+agreedddd
well said
Right, because pointing out flaws = offering myself as the artist? Cute logic. If calling out bad work bothers you so much, maybe you're not confident in what you're defending. Try harder next time. That comeback was as weak as the art.
And calling this "hot air"? Nah, it's just uncomfortable truth you couldn’t handle. Don't worry, it stings less once you stop pretending bad art is deep.
And since you brought up the classic “you’re reading for free” bit, yeah, it’s an illegal upload. We all know that. But that still doesn’t change the fact that this is what people are seeing. If the work is out there, people will talk about it. Girl, public criticism doesn’t come with a receipt check.
The only thing more dead than the “emotionless” art you’re crying about is your ability to read the room. You’re not edgy, you’re just loud and desperate for attention in a place you don’t even belong. Lmao go cry in the corner by your own poor self if you can’t even afford to support a creator on tappy FOR FREE yet stick around for their work anyway.
The “emotionless” is apart of their characters. Gable is DESCRIBED to be an EMOTIONLESS man. Xinlu also likes to have a fake smile plastered on his face at all times so calling the art “emotionless” would most likely be a compliment since that’s what the artist is aiming for. If you don’t like the art then just drop it. You’re reading it on an illegal site so be grateful about what you’re getting. If you’re still not satisfied with it then go draw another version yourself.
Oh, it’s meant to look emotionless? Cool. Still looks dead. Intentional garbage is still garbage.
And again with the “you’re reading it for free” argument? That doesn’t magically cancel out criticism. Illegal upload or not, if people are seeing the work, it’s going to be judged. The internet doesn’t pause for your moral hierarchy.
“Draw it yourself”? I don’t need to be a chef to know the food’s burnt.
Try again with a real point this time.
You’re not defending the art. You’re just upset that someone told the truth.
If calling out bad work makes you this emotional, maybe you're not as sure about its quality as you pretend to be.
Calm down. It’s just a comment not a personal attack. Unless you made the art… then yeah, it shows.
Are you talking about your truth or universal truth because art is evaluated based on subjective criteria where personal taste plays an important part. Also the author is not the one who decided on the artist, but the studio is based on their contract. I think people are just more used to Passion art style, but aside from whether I personally like it, both styles fit the characters' personalities. This one has more "fluid" lineart with soft colors that reminds me of water and Yuri Gable while in Passion, it gives off firm and strong impression, much like Iltae themselves
Omg you’re so on point, I didn’t even realize that. It does make sense that each art style matches the main character and this soft art style does match yuri

How dare anyone expect basic respect from someone camping out in pirated content like it’s a five-star experience. You’re right, the internet doesn’t pause for moral hierarchy... but it also doesn’t take freeloaders seriously. You’re not offering critique, you’re cosplaying as Gordon Ramsay in a Mcdonalds parking lot.
And that “I don’t need to be a chef to know the food’s burnt” line? Cute. Except you're scarfing it down for free and then yelling at the staff like you’re the health inspector. If the work’s trash, stop reading. But we both know you won’t. Hate is free too, right? Stay mad.
Beautifully written.
Bad art doesn’t become good just because it’s pirated.
I came for the story I already read. I just wanted to see the characters in art but what I got was 'bleh'. That’s not hate. That’s disappointment!
And if “just stop reading” is your best defense, you’re basically saying the work can’t handle opinions. That says enough.
sybau, if it's so appaling for you to read then don't read it, easy. fuckers like you js hv to continue consuming stuff that they know aint their cup of tea, and then complain that they hate it, ARE WE DEADASS?? heh unemployed behavior dare i say. and besides for sum1 that's literally reading it without throwing any money do you rlly think you hv the right to voice out ur nothing-burger like of an opinion? well you've got sum balls with you pal, I'd give you that. also, do me a favor and go find a job so you can at least own a couple of penny and finay pay for the official tl, cz really your insight sounds so effing pathetic

You just wrote a full tantrum because someone didn’t clap for your favorite comic. That’s not defending art that’s emotional damage.
You talk about “unemployed behavior” while rage-commenting like it’s your full-time job. Wild.
Also, I didn’t realize a price tag was the entry fee to have an opinion. If that’s your logic, guess no one can say water tastes bad unless they paid for it.
Anyway, keep crying over my standards. I’ll keep watching you lose it in real time.
