I enjoy reading books, manga, and yaois to escape reality sometimes. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and this fictional world provides me with some serenity and peace.
However, it does not blind me from my reality. You clearly understand how the media and news shape reality and our minds. That means you are not being manipulated by its depictions of what a 'good life' or a 'healthy relationship' is.
I've read so many of these stories for years, yet I never look for such 'positivity' or their depictions of a healthy relationship in mine. Trust me, I've had my fair share of relationships, but I never forget who I truly am, or expect anything when I enter one.
