How come I understood nothing this chapter
After the assassination attempt, with ines gone, Carcel is able to confirm that he was the target all along (which makes him relieved as ines is safe) and that someone wants him dead not because of his family or power (no one could gain anything from his murder), but because he's Ines husband.
