It’s not meant for empathy I think, it’s prolly trying to explain his behavior as cycle of violence is a pretty solid sociological study. People who grow up in violence end up growing up to become violent themselves or end up in situations with violent people cuz that’s what they know, kindness to them is like a mirage, inauthentic and not as easy to trust so they become messed up individuals. Although some people break out of this cycle, it’s tough to do it when you aren’t aware of it
