She was being targeted. The real Veronica has a lot of enemies, including some of her own (branch) family members because of both her terrible personality and her main family history.
If people knew that the real Veronica was sick or weak, they'd take advantage of it and target her more, so they needed to hide her until she could get better ----which is why they found our MC to temporarily take her place.
For the real Veronica, our MC was meant to not only just pretend to be her and look healthy, but also to advance her social status to the highest degree so that her life was basically set for her as Queen or even Empress.
