10/10 Review. This story is the definition of "us against the world". I've nothing but good words to say about this story. I loved the characters, art, plot. Fair warning to people who are planning on reading this story: if a reason to read is smut, ur not gonna find that much here. This story has romance as a sub-plot, and while the mc and ml's main motivator is each other in this story, u won't get that many wholesome moments.
Anyways, I liked that all the characters were complicated and flawed, and you really do love these characters despite how they are kinda red flags. I wanna cuddle and squeeze the MC's cheeks even though he's pretty emotionless aside from ML. And I liked how serious ML was in terms of survival and his backstory. They have a mutual obsession with each other, but everything is pretty consensual for the most part. Their chemistry is really good.
The apocalyptic setting was really fascinating, and the whole superpower plot was a good rendition to include. I would say the whole core-power thing was easy to understand for me because it reminded me of guideverse but without the whole "needing physical affection to survive" trope.
I liked the villains in this story, I think if we were to really have an apocalypse irl, corporations would really try to capitalize off our situation, and I think that made the story realistic for me. Because in this story the characters aren't REALLY trying to survive from zombies. MC is immune, ML was trained as a soldier. They're self confident that they can live a long life if their only problem was zombies. However, the villains were other humans, evil people who think ends justify the means.
I think that was the main theme of this story that the author wanted the readers to understand. Think about it like this: COVID in and of itself could've probably ended earlier if all of us stayed in our houses, wore masks, and took vaccines. Most of us did do that, of course, but we all probably know someone who didn't take that seriously, and that one person got infected and spread it to others. And thus Covid stayed as long as it did. It translates to this story too: the zombies are a problem for our characters, yes, but the main issue is the other bad people who rolled with the problem and made it way worse than it needed to be.
So yeah, I love this story
