Oh cmon now, its clearly not for attention. Hes riddled with anxiety and struggling with what the other person said, postpartum depression and mental health issues. Literally the other chapters make it so clear he has incredibly poor self image after becoming pregnant and having a child. TT TT bfr

Its because hes struggling with self confidence/image issues and his mental health deteriorated once he became pregnant and got worse when he gave birth. He assumes nux will leave him because of how he looks and other stuff and gets scared he will abandon him from. What looks like jealousy is intense anxiety and hatred towards himself first and foremost.
If you think back on the chapters of just how many times he lost nux in multiple timelines, he became a very anxious person because he loves nux so much but also watched him die, lost him many times. and nux dies due to stress or strong negative emotions. He’s always been quite an anxious person since meeting nux, and is scared to lose him in any way (like to other asperiers for example)
The reason hes scratching his face and not allowing nux to see what he looks like (the not seeing what he looks like or what his body has changed to be when they are intimate as stated in previous chapters) is because of this anxiety and self image issues which is one of the reasons he hid himself and the pregnancy from nux (aside assuming nux would hate it and also that the child has to be about 5 years old to be able to leave the planet)
