I'm so confused. Why is the king also plotting against the prince, like that's his hier right? Why would he be trying to control the prince while working with the council when he doesn't have any other children?
It's not like he's gonna be able to rule forever. Can someone explain it to me? Maybe I need to reread.

Council or 'King's heart' from the novel, had been doing this for generations. When they found the right regas for the king, they would slowly manipulate the king through the regas ( just like what they did to abel and prince). They make the prince study by using abel like, 'abel would be disappointed if you don't do this or that'. Then, when the prince/king were dependent to the regas, they would slowly separate them and find another regas with the same feature, and personality that they can control. The other thing that they use to control the king is the black potion. Its like a drug that they have some withdrawal if they stop ingesting it, so they manipulate them by telling them what to do, with the drug as a reward. Its a cycle and has been done through generations of Kings.

But yea, I know that the one who instructed them to burn the forest is not the king, but since only those with dragon blood can go in to the forest I just found it strange that the king who they met was also plotting(?) against the kid ( I forgot his name in all honesty). I think it has to do with something about the queens family but I don't know.
The king is also helpless, please understand him, and he doesn't have anything against the kid. In fact, the king is envious to the prince because he has a regas like abel. He will be a big help in the next few chapters.
