Just smth that bothers me a bit. The title of this work is A Tree Without Roots, and although Heeseo and Taekyung both fit this description in that they are orphans, Taekyung was adopted into a family and he gets along with them while Heeseo is impulsive and trying to find somewhere to belong. But Taekyung is the one with a scar on his back that looks exactly like a tree… without roots. And this scar is the result of saving Heeseo. I wonder why the author chose to put a scar that looks exactly like the title name on Taekyung. Is it to say hes actually just like Heeseo I guess, in that his family is an illusion and hes really just a rootless tree or something else, or its just a callback to the title?
There’s a lot of moments in the novel where there’s just almost no way you could interpret their interactions as platonic. I found someone’s tumblr where they do translate a few chapters and snippets of chapters that highlight the homoerotic tension between them. Right now there’s about 15 or so posts ranging from translations from chapters 399-797. Their tumblr handle is lalune9x. One of my fave chapters lalune9x has translated and posted on her blog is chapter 469 where Yoojin declares to Hyunjae that he wants him to live however recklessly he wants and he’ll make sure it happens and that even if Hyunjae disappears or tries to run away, Yoojin will always drag him back. He confesses this in front of Taewon and Hyuna who are also there lol, and Yoojin blushes and can’t look Hyunjae in his face and hightails it out of there after that statement. Hyunjae’s reaction is also quite telling, hiding his face and saying that it drives him crazy. Ive bought some of the chapters on Ridibooks to compare the MTL translation and the tumblr creator really is doing gods work translating the Korean chapters and explaining the nuances of the Korean words
I really, really liked the comedy in this series and they both gave mad virgin energy despite being in their late twenties and early thirties so I went on a mad search for spoilers to see if that was true. I found the original Korean novel on google playstore books, link here:

And spoilers:
In the novel they are both virgins, completely. Joohwan briefly dated a woman but couldn't have sex with her and got broken up with because he made her feel unwanted. And Sihyun as he got older attempted to sleep with a woman but couldn’t go through with it because of a certain someone. In fact Joohwan affected his sexual tastes and he became into being strangled lol, but only by Joohwan. After they do the deed in novel 2, both thinking the other had a lot of experience lmao, Sihyun thinks to himself that if he knew sex could be this good, he would have done it a lot sooner. Also, Sihyun thinks Joohwan is engaged and Joohwan doesn’t bother to clear this up until end of novel 3, when Sihyun gets engaged because of his family and Joohwan gets very upset and lets Sihyun know he doesn’t want Sihyun to get married marriage and confesses his feelings and virgin status to him lol. Sihyun thought being in a fake marriage was okay bc of his own parents and bc he thought Joohwan was already engaged to someone else but still doing it with him. It was also very funny when Joohwan blamed Sihyuns masochistic tastes on his nonexistent previous partners but then Sihyun tells him that his only partner has been Joohwan and Joohwan was the one who developed Sihyuns sexual tastes lol

I bought the series and currently on volume 2, where they do the deed. Both of them are virgins with very limited experience with women, never went all the way.
They lost their virginity to each other in volume 2 but refuse to admit to the other and both think the other has a lot of experience lmao. Kinda a f***buddy relationship now? So many misunderstandings. Not sure how it will progress from there but hopefully they won’t cheat on each other.
This has become my favorite BL story of all time. The beginning was a little questionable but it is so fricking good in the way it depicts loneliness, kindness, and love, not to mention the many little specific comedic moments like Sihwa not only flipping off the dad but following him with the finger as he walked away lmao. I wish it was longer and that we could have seen more of the slice of life interactions between Sohan and Sihwa too. I couldn’t get enough of the tidbits that we were shown, like Sohan making sure to moisturize Sihwa’s face or when Sihwa presses his face to the glass to make Sohan laugh.
Sohan left a lasting impression on me because he is so kind, and it shows with all the people he interacts with. He constantly puts other people above himself, and has the patience of a saint with Sihwa, who he takes care of reminiscent of a mother(the few pieces of violence between them aside (⊙…⊙ )). Sihwa is not as perceptive of Sohan’s feelings and he can be selfish, especially when it comes to wanting Sohan all for himself. But Sihwa is basically an immature teen in an adult body raised without much affection or emotion from those around him. Even so, he looks for Sohan whenever Sohan is upset, and he continually tries to learn how to make Sohan happy. Although Sohan was always the one to give in to him, that shifts once Sohan’s dad enters the picture. Sihwa wants to monopolize Sohan, and he easily could. But he notices and internalizes the importance of Sohan’s relationships to him even if he can’t understand why Solan wants to be with his dad. He gives him his space and waits for him, despite his confusion and sadness. He adopts his rules in interacting with people. Even though he was dying, he wanted to stay on Earth with Sohan despite originally wanting to take him back to Planet Alpha, because Sohan would have regrets if he left Earth at the time. Sihwa begins to put Sohan’s needs above his own. I think they balance each other out very well.
It makes me sad to think about how Sohan never went to college and spent so much of his youth working for the sake of someone else and being abandoned by his parents who chose to live their best lives without him. He was lonely and never felt he belonged anywhere because of the trauma his parents left him with. It’s nice to see him with someone as dedicated to him as Sihwa is. Although in the story, we’ve only seen Sohan taking care of Sihwa, I imagine that Sihwa is taking good care of Sohan and giving him a life of happiness and comfort on Planet Alpha. I really wish we had more ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
Please be a happy ending
Last time I checked the novel is not finished and I only read half of it but so far it doesn't seems it's a bad ending it's not a toxic ship either
There's a lot of action and stuff happening around them and yuder is pretty good at solving things but he's prone to get himself hurt physically
Yeah, it's still ongoing till now
