It's your life, why're you settling with someone you have a choice not to and don't want to because of pity and a thread of attachment? He is an important part of your memory but that doesn't mean he has to be apart of everything following. And why are you so sure divorcing him after a year will change anything? He'll only become more outrageous with his antics and obsession with you. The cycle will repeat. If you keep dragging this out, you will eventually be tired enough to end the relationship as well. Why put yourself through all this struggle if the ending will be the same? I'm only saying this with the assumption that you hold no romantic feelings for him btw. Go tell him straight that you don't want to continue whatever you guys are anymore and that you are going to meet new people. Say you're happy that he's in your life, but you don't want him here as a partner. Either he respects your decision, or you walk away because this is only creating stress for you. About his family also, I'm certain they will be sad but will definitely not force you to stay with "Jayce" because of their personal feelings. Btw this will also happen when you divorce him.
