Technically yes he just need guiding, the problem is the amount. MC is a normal rank guide so his guiding is not strong enough to wake ML and ML can't receive guiding from anyone else because the imprint. For the "amnesia" part, I don't get much either, it's probably his side effect from the mental training and overusing power?
