I love this story. I feel like them atm after my parent’s passing. Though I’m chronically single, I understand how difficult it is to move forward after being in that situation.
I love how well they complement each other specially being middle aged. Though I’d love it if they looked a bit older hahaha.
As a part of the community his reaction used to be my everyday up until not that long ago. I felt the constant fear, and I mean primal instinct “imma ‘bout to die” kinda shit. You feel like you have to check how you walk, how you dress, how you move your hands, your intonation and pitch. I still remember the words of a friend saying “Oh you don’t look like it but the moment you open your mouth I can tell” and she didn’t mean to offend or attack mean, she was just like that, but it affected me so much I stopped having long conversations with others to avoid “being perceived”. I’ve difficulties with the idea of taking my partner’s hand on the street. Guys this is trauma, the trauma of a minority that still very much barely being accepted. And I’m from the West! I can’t imagine Korea.
MC’s reaction is absolutely normal and deserves understanding and compassion, please. ML’s obliviousness is cute but as a lot of you love to say when facing criticism in these platforms: this is fiction, it’s not real; and men like the ML in the real world might exist but I can assure you it is not normal thing to see big chested, StrayKidz Felix looking, VIRGIN, “gay but only for you”, airheaded, not-wanting-to label-themselves kind of straight guys. If the author is taking the gay rights approach and is trying to showcase the difficulties of the community in Korea through humour and their medium in this way. You might also want to wear your “thinking glasses” when understanding this story: no, they can’t talk in the middle of a busy station; no, not even in a quiet corner (if you can get there your homophobic neighbours can as well); yes, if they see him with another man in the middle of a busy station talking about his feelings they might suspect; yes, people talk and gossip about ANYTHING and in front of his mother. These might have been the things going through our poor MC's mind during the event. I swear to you it’s true because I was the same.
Please, remember that BL and yaoi are a fantasy and realistic depictions of people in the closet look more like this. Lots of love.
That’s it
