I don't remember the main killer name but I feel he's of the type who targets guys whose partners are piece of shits and studies their behaviour/makes them on his side while feeding his "crazy" side of killing people so that the partners wouldn't feel bad for him as he's punishing them on their behalf. Also making money by writing novels on these things.
